Cupcakes on the run in Chicago

It has been said, Chicago loves to chase its cupcakes, but this is getting a little out of control ...cupcake trucks are chasing us. Where we work, to our homes. Cupcakes are distracting us in the middle of the work day, taunting us with their tasty little cupcake ways. Take a break, run out, grab a cupcake, is that so hard? Come on. You know you want to. That's right, there will soon be two more cupcake trucks besides the first on the streets, Flirty Cupcakes. The more cupcake truck will soon be out on the roads and just recently, Cupcake Gallery launched.

I just caught the Cupcake Gallery truck at the corner of Michigan and Wacker and sampled The Elvis: a banana cake filled with homemade peanut butter ganache topped with peanut butter cream frosting. Holy moly, this cupcake packs some serious peanut butter banana punch. I guess the non-mobile bakery version comes with a chocolate drizzle and a fried banana slice on top, but mine didn't. Cheaters! I'll have to visit the bakery in Uptown to rectify the situation with another cupcake.

And then there's the Maple Bacon: A maple-y cake with a sweet and savory maple bacon frosting, topped with a slice of maple bacon.

Not only do they have a pretty big selection of cupcakes on the truck, but they frost them to order.

A shout out to Darius for risking his life for my cupcakes. Driving around busy downtown Chicago at all is a feat in itself, let alone in a honkin' cupcake truck. And parking is always an issue especially in this town - drivers have to keep their eyes and ears peeled for cops at all times ...or else!! Peep the police car driving away from the truck. Bless you, CPD for letting these people get their Friday cupcake fix!
